The Austrian Audio OC818 Live Set is a professional matched stereo pair of multi-pattern, dual-diaphragm condenser microphones designed for high-end studio recording, live production and advanced stereo techniques. Each OC818 combines analogue microphone architecture with extensive control over polar response and the ability to record the front and rear capsule diaphragms independently.

At the heart of each microphone is a large dual-diaphragm capsule engineered for consistent performance and precise matching. The microphones in the Live Set are matched within a tight 1 dB tolerance, making the pair particularly suitable for stereo recording where consistency between the left and right channels is essential.

Each OC818 provides four primary polar patterns: cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8. An additional preset/custom position expands the system when used with compatible Austrian Audio control technology, allowing more sophisticated directional configurations.

The OC818 features a unique dual-output architecture. The front diaphragm is available through the main XLR connection, while the rear diaphragm can be routed independently through the secondary mini-XLR output. This makes it possible to record both capsule signals onto separate tracks and determine or modify the effective polar response later in post-production.

With Austrian Audio’s PolarDesigner software, the independently captured signals can be used to create customized polar patterns after recording. Polar response can even be adjusted independently across five frequency bands, providing significantly more control than a conventional multi-pattern microphone.

This architecture makes the matched pair particularly powerful for professional stereo techniques including A/B, X/Y, Blumlein, ORTF and Mid-Side, as well as omnidirectional stereo configurations. Engineers can select the most appropriate technique for the source and acoustic environment while retaining considerable flexibility during post-production.

Each microphone also includes selectable -10 dB and -20 dB pads, allowing the OC818 to handle extremely loud sources with a maximum SPL of up to 148 dB. Three selectable high-pass filter settings at 40, 80 and 160 Hz provide control over low-frequency rumble, proximity effect and unwanted bass energy.

Optional wireless control is available through the Austrian Audio OCR8 Bluetooth module and PolarPilot mobile application for iOS and Android. When installed, the system enables remote adjustment of polar patterns, filtering and pad settings. Importantly, the microphone’s audio signal remains entirely in the analogue domain; Bluetooth is used only for control.

With a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity of 13 mV/Pa and low self-noise of 9 dB(A), the OC818 is designed to capture both subtle acoustic detail and highly dynamic sources. Standard 48 V phantom power provides the operating power required by the microphones.

Constructed from a durable zinc-aluminium alloy and finished in Black, the OC818 Live Set is built for demanding professional environments. The package includes two microphone clips, two mini-XLR cables, two XLR cables and two windscreens, providing a complete matched stereo system for sophisticated studio and live recording.
