Lauten Audio Series Black LA-220 V2 Premium Studio Condenser Microphone
The Lauten Audio Series Black LA-220 V2 is a large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone designed to provide two distinct tonal approaches within a single studio microphone. Its analogue sound-shaping system allows the response to move between a warmer, more classic character and a clearer, more contemporary presentation, making it adaptable to different voices, instruments and production styles.
At its core is a custom 32 mm centre-terminated pressure-gradient capsule, based on the capsule architecture used in Lauten Audio’s higher-tier LA-320. The transducer is designed to deliver a naturally controlled response with subtle tonal smoothness, making it particularly effective on vocals, strings, percussion and amplified instruments.
The LA-220 V2 uses a transformer-balanced FET circuit, combining solid-state consistency with a more characterful analogue output stage. Its tonal flexibility allows engineers to shape the microphone’s response at the recording stage rather than relying entirely on processing later in the signal chain.
The integrated analogue sound-shaping system provides two contrasting tonal personalities. A warmer setting can soften the upper register and introduce a more traditional studio character, while the more open configuration preserves greater clarity, presence and detail for contemporary productions.
Its cardioid polar pattern focuses primarily on the source in front of the capsule while reducing pickup from the rear. This makes the microphone suitable for vocal booths, instrument recording and studio environments where separation from surrounding sound and room reflections is important.
Two independent frequency-shaping filters further expand its versatility. A 120 Hz high-pass filter can reduce low-frequency rumble, proximity build-up and unnecessary bass energy, while a 12 kHz low-pass filter softens excessive high-frequency content and can help control harsh or overly bright sources. The filters can also be left flat.
With a dynamic range of at least 120 dB and maximum SPL of 130 dB at 0.5% THD, the LA-220 V2 can handle both nuanced performances and substantially louder sources. Self-noise below 15 dB(A) supports detailed studio recording without excessive noise from the microphone electronics.
The microphone offers 16 mV/Pa sensitivity, an output impedance below 200 ohms and a standard balanced 3-pin XLR connection. Its electronics require 48 V phantom power, making it compatible with professional microphone preamps, mixing consoles and audio interfaces.
Supplied with a shock mount and protective soft pouch, the LA-220 V2 is a versatile recording package built for regular studio work. Its combination of a custom large-diaphragm capsule, transformer-balanced FET electronics and analogue tonal shaping gives engineers meaningful control over the sound before it reaches the rest of the recording chain.
