The Universal Audio Sphere DLX is a premium large-diaphragm modeling condenser microphone system designed to recreate the sonic characteristics of an extensive collection of classic studio microphones. Combining a precision dual-diaphragm capsule with advanced Sphere modeling software, it gives engineers access to 38 microphone models inspired by renowned condenser, ribbon and dynamic designs.

Unlike a conventional studio microphone, Sphere DLX captures detailed multi-channel information that can be processed through the Sphere software during or after recording. This allows the engineer to audition different microphone models and adjust key characteristics without committing permanently to a single microphone sound at the tracking stage.

The included collection covers 38 classic microphone models, representing the sonic characteristics associated with celebrated studio designs from manufacturers such as Neumann, Telefunken, AKG, Sony and others. Different models can be selected after the performance has already been recorded, giving producers considerably more flexibility during mixing.

When paired with a compatible Universal Audio Apollo interface, Sphere microphone models can also be monitored with near-zero latency during recording. The system remains compatible with other suitable audio interfaces and DAWs, allowing its modeling capabilities to be integrated into a wide range of professional recording environments.

A major advantage of the Sphere DLX is its dual-capsule architecture and dual-output design. A single microphone can capture stereo sources such as piano, drums, strings and room ambience, while different microphone models can be assigned to the left and right channels to create more complex stereo textures.

Its Dual Mode can also combine the characteristics of two modeled mono microphones from a single recording. This makes it possible to explore microphone combinations traditionally used on sources such as guitar cabinets and drums without physically positioning two separate microphones.

Sphere technology also provides extensive control over polar pattern and microphone characteristics after recording. This allows engineers to refine directivity and tonal behaviour during the production process rather than treating microphone selection and placement as completely irreversible decisions.

The included IsoSphere functionality is designed to compensate for the tonal effects of common isolation systems and less-than-ideal recording spaces. Dedicated profiles support a range of popular reflection filters and portable acoustic solutions, helping reduce unwanted coloration before the recording reaches the final mix.

The hardware itself uses a 1-inch dual gold-sputtered diaphragm capsule with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. A maximum SPL of up to 140 dB with pad engaged and a dynamic range of 133 dB provide sufficient headroom for demanding vocal, instrumental and high-level recording applications.

Supplied with a professional shock mount, microphone stand mount, 25-foot cable and carrying case, the Universal Audio Sphere DLX combines premium microphone hardware with a sophisticated software-based recording platform. It is designed for studios that require a broad palette of microphone characteristics without maintaining an equally extensive physical microphone collection.
